Are You Ready for World Health Day??

World Health Day celebrates 70 years amidst an unprecedented World Health Crisis! Here’s what you can do for your own health.

Every April 7th, people all over the world celebrate the event, which started back in 1950. World Health Day highlights a specific health subject that is top of mind for the World Health Organization (WHO).

Since its inception, World Health Day has covered topics such as mental health, food safety, road safety, and even climate change. Last year, the WHO focused on creating awareness around universal health coverage (UHC), which aims to ensure that people in every community have access to quality health services.

World Health Day 2020 is all about nurses and midwives. These healthcare professionals, along with many others, are currently serving on the front lines of the battle against COVID-19. Without nurses, our healthcare system would completely collapse. Without midwives, new mothers all over the world wouldn’t have the support they desperately need.

Here at goodlifesleep, we want to encourage people everywhere to participate in World Health Day, even during this uniquely difficult time. Post on social media, call your loved ones in the healthcare field, donate medical supplies, and more, to support those who are working tirelessly to heal and serve our sickest patients!

So many lives are being turned upside down by the coronavirus. We wanted to build on the momentum of World Health Day and help brainstorm ways that you can invest in your well-being on all levels, in addition to supporting the WHO’s powerful cause.

As a transformational wellness coach, holistic health, to me, includes the mind, body, and spirit. Too often, we focus first on the body, second on the mind, and none on the spirit. In this post, I want to give you a few thoughts and actions to help get you back on track in each of these areas with World Health Day as our starting line!

The Mind

The mind is the seat of our consciousness. Our minds perceive the world around us and feed our emotions. From our minds, we derive motivation, memory, learning, and focus – all of which are critical to leading successful lives. The power of the human mind is what separates us from all other creatures on this planet.

We can’t achieve our fullest potential without healthy, strong minds. One of the best ways that we can proactively nourish our minds is by committing to consistent and deep rest every night.

So many of us typically run ourselves to the ground in our busy culture. However, for many people, the coronavirus has forced a type of sabbatical from reality.

If you are in this position and have extra margin in your life right now, take the opportunity to reset your relationship with sleep. Instead of watching more TV or picking other unhealthy habits, commit to high-quality rest.

The Body

The physical body is what comes to mind most when we think about “health.” And under the physical body category, eating well and exercising are the most quickly recognized components.

However, these are only pieces of the whole picture! Preserving and nourishing the body includes giving it ample time to rest. Physical fitness isn’t just about how hard we workout. It’s also about how well we recover.

When we combine healthy eating and exercise with good sleep, we can truly maximize our energy. So many people today “live for the weekend,” only to get there and release they have nothing left to give. At goodlifesleep, we focus on managing our bodies and our personal energy efficiently so that we never miss a chance to live to our fullest!

 

Action 

Get outside with the greatest precautions. Get sunlight, fresh air and walk!

The Spirit 

Finally, the spirit is the most overlooked category of personal health. Our spirit is the core and essence of who we are. Without the spirit, the mind and body are two disjointed forces, each trying to “win” over our lives.

The spirit inspires unity and cohesion. It allows us to set our intention on big dreams and chase after them joyfully. When we live according to our spirit, we experience deep peace, purpose, and fulfilment.

Again, sleep is vital for the spirit. By sleeping well, we empower our spirits. When we don’t, we lose sight of our deepest needs and desires and focus instead on surfaced-level pursuits. Only through consistent, restorative rest do we let our spirits express themselves as they deserve in our lives.

Sleep: the foundation of well-being 

As highlighted above, sleep is essential to achieving the absolute best version of ourselves in every area of well-being. We often say at goodlifesleep, because it’s true, that sleep is the foundation of well-being.

Without good sleep, we can’t maximize the mind, body, and spirit.

As the coronavirus looms over this year’s World Health Day, let’s double down on our health – our health from a truly holistic approach. One of the best ways that we can honour the WHO’s annual health celebration is by ensuring that we are as healthy as we can be, so that we can then help others, like those on the forefront of the fight against COVID-19.
