Do you know anyone who has suffered from Alzheimer’s?

Do you know anyone who has suffered from Alzheimer’s?

This is what you can do today. Prioritize sleep!

First of all, I’m not a doctor but I have had some real-life experience with a family member who died from this and in recent years, I have discovered something that could help others (and ourselves) that could be valuable. Many of us might have seen in the news of our favourite people who died recently, I’ll share more below.

Alzheimer’s is a chronic neurodegenerative disease, meaning it occurs gradually and over a long period of time causing dementia and eventually death. I experienced my grandfather suffering from this and I’m sure you have many experiences in your own life stories because it has become more prevalent in our lifetime. The reason I share this is because November is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month in the US.

“Every 65 seconds someone develops Alzheimer’s disease and over 5.7 million Americans have the disease in the United States, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. Deaths from Alzheimer’s have increased 123% between 2000 and 2015.”

I could share lots more research, stats, facts & figures (in case your interested, I’ve attached the link here) because I’ve been studying some incredible things about how SLEEP can help prevent this terrible ‘modern’ disease. I continue to read the latest books and research from Dr Matthew Walker, Dr Daniel Amen and one of my fav doctors I had the pleasure of meeting personally, Dr Rubin Naiman and many other organizations dedicated to learning more about the disease. What I’m more passionate about is sharing what can be done to prevent this and many other diseases from happening in the first place.

“Treatment without prevention is simply unsustainable.” Bill Gates

Rather than overwhelm you with the research, listen to one of Glen Campbell’s last songs who bravely wrote about his life with Alzheimer’s and died in 2017.

I’m still here, but yet I’m gone
I don’t play guitar or sing my songs
They never defined who I am
The man that loves you ’til the end

You’re the last person I will love
You’re the last face I will recall
And best of all, I’m not gonna miss you
Not gonna miss you

I’m never gonna hold you like I did
Or say I love you to the kids
You’re never gonna see it in my eyes
It’s not gonna hurt me when you cry

I’m never gonna know what you go through
All the things I say or do
All the hurt and all the pain
One thing selfishly remains

I’m not gonna miss you
I’m not gonna miss you

Glen Campbell
