What does summer and your health have in common?

Knowing this could kickstart your summer now!

“The only way to keep your health is to eat what you don’t want, drink what you don’t like, and do what you’d rather not.”   Mark Twain

Most people think of summer and health as the perfect time to get in shape for the beaches. We start exercising, eating lighter & healthier and getting out more often with the longer days. Summer Solstice is this Friday and a Full Strawberry Moon is rising tonight. This mid-year Full Moon is considered a time of completing some of your goals and visions and celebrating all you’ve done so far this year. Remember those?

It’s time for embracing your creativity and sharpening all your intentions to make the second half of the year even better! But do you know what emotion can really expand your peak energy and potential? It’s not the first time I’ve written about Happiness and it’s not the last time either as I continue to learn and experience how powerful our emotional wellbeing is connected to everything we do. Here are 3 things you can start now to cultivate more happiness, the emotion of Summer energy!

“The body is like a piano, and happiness is like music. It is needful to have the instrument in good order”    Henry Ward Beecher

Get close!  Relationships and how happy you are in good relationships have a very powerful influence on your health, more than money or fame. Think of this as a form of selfcare SO start cultivating and spending more time with people that make you happy! This is the key to ageing well for both men and women. Relationships, Relationships, Relationships!

Get happy!  Finding Happiness and Flow at work might seem difficult but that’s only if you depend on it from someone else! Own your own emotions and feelings and learn how to get happy and I don’t mean Happy Hour! If you’re one of the lucky few with a CHO or Chief Happiness Officer it’s a good start but this really starts with YOU taking 100% responsibility for your own life. If you want more detail, try these 9 steps to get flowing in the workplace!

Get moving!  Summer is the season of peak activity, building meaningful relationships and happiness. The heart is the organ associated with Summer in the TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) perspective so the timing is perfect for more exercise and activity on all levels both socially and physically but be sure to balance it with rest and sleep (maybe just a tiny bit less during these longer days)!

“Happiness is good health and a bad memory.”   Ingrid Bergman

In reality, happiness and good health are actually good for your memory, it protects your brain as well as your body. The longest ongoing study of health & happiness comes from a Harvard study running nearly 80 years now. The biggest revelation from those studies was that those people in healthy relationships were healthier mentally, emotionally and physically. They suffered less depression and had better memory function. It was a better indicator of longer, healthier lives than cholesterol levels, social status or even genetics!
