I was only recently inspired…
By an interview, Oprah had with Elizabeth Gilbert a few years back but found it especially relevant in today’s climate. I wanted to share some of my perspectives in two parts, one now and the other to follow at some point in the future. Meanwhile, enjoy this replay:
Joseph Campbell’s ‘Hero’s Journey’
is something that I’m very close to but only realised it when my mentor, Roger James Hamilton shared how my ‘genius’ is related to this particular story structure. Elizabeth Gilbert talks about how our society doesn’t really see women as ‘heroes’ so I want to share how my ‘hero’ is my wife, she’s my shero.
‘crossed oceans of time’
Adriana’s call to adventure began when she traveled to America, a country she did not know at all nor speak the language in 1990. She said she ‘crossed oceans of time’ to find me, to find the life that was waiting for her, the life she wanted that was NOT in Spain.
“We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.” Joseph Campbell
Next stop was Santa Fe, New Mexico for a short stay with one of her sisters & husband then San Francisco to join another sister where her life (and mine) would change.
The short story is that we met and 12 weeks later, we were married in 1992. A significant year when Spain was at the center of the global stage and both Spain and Adriana had conquered my heart.
“It is better to live your own destiny imperfectly than to live an imitation of somebody else’s life with perfection.”
Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love quoting the Bhagavad Gita
What happened in the next 25 years has been full of adventures, global travels, entrepreneurial pursuits and many, many ups and downs that continue to transform our perspectives on love, health, wealth and freedom.
Although she was a leading holistic beauty therapist for our many years in London, she was always challenging herself to find a deeper meaning to her life, constantly stretching and learning new ways to live her dreams.
Adriana has always been the most positive person I’ve known especially through the tough times and continues to be the mirror in my life, challenging me and supporting me.
She is my Shero…
because she inspires me by example demonstrating her love in everything she does…most of the time. She’s human as we all are but continues to choose positivity, happiness, and adventure sharing this journey with me. Are you ready to answer your call to adventure?
