“WHO were you 10 years ago? WHO will you become in 2020?

Many people take this time to reflect on the past year because it’s a natural time of year for this and in fact, Winter is the perfect season in the concept of the 5 Seasons to rest, reflect and create. You may have heard about this from me many times over the past year!

Let’s take this to another level because 2020 is an auspicious year and I’d love for you to be ready for an incredible year ahead and create the life you dream of by first knowing who you really are before setting new goals. Here are 3 things to consider preparing for the New Year.

Do you remember who you were 10 years ago physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally? You may think that you’re physiologically older but actually you are a completely new person on a cellular level.

Almost every cell in your body has been replaced, you’re a new person! Change is good, as difficult as it can be for many. I’ll share a tiny bit of my own story below so you’ll see you’re not alone and how you can move more gracefully and powerfully through the next year.

“Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.” John F. Kennedy

I believe creating your future begins by looking at the past and the present without dwelling on it. As coaches, we always start by asking the right questions at the right time that invites you to discover the answers yourself.

My intention is to simply stimulate self-reflection, be an excellent, empathetic listener and guide you from where and WHO you are to where you want to be and WHO you are becoming in your future. Like in Nature, the Winter season is the time to create the ‘seeds’ and ideas you want to plant in the next season.

3 simple considerations  (simple as ABC but not always easy)

Acknowledge your past, where you’ve been, who you were. This is the starting point. First, acknowledge your accomplishments because we often forget this and remember the challenges more. It’s not your fault as we tend to have a negativity bias.

We bought and sold properties in Europe, travelled through Europe, spent 6 weeks in Bali on an entrepreneur retreat. We then moved back to the US (after 17 years in London) to care for my elderly parents because it was part of our 10-year plan we had made in 2006 along with leaving my corporate ‘job’ and starting yet another entrepreneurial endeavor!

The biggest accomplishment, however, was discovering my true purpose and becoming a certified health coach with the Health Coach Institute but remember to celebrate the small wins as well! This will set the tone for planning your year.

“Always remember: You’re braver than you believe and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you can ever imagine.” Mag Secretario

Believe in a new way of thinking. Believing is seeing! What! Believe in yourself and that all things are possible. This is by far the most powerful consideration before setting goals. Many people already do this in their ‘religious’ practices. It’s a constant reminder that there is something much bigger than ourselves but what if we looked at it differently?

What if you can create the future you want by first believing you can? My short time with Dr Bruce Lipton taught me that your belief system is so powerful that we are not determined by our genetics! We all once believed that the Earth was flat once and that even Darwin’s Theory of Evolution and Isaac Newton’s physics of the Universe is the truth.

We live in a new world of science, reality and thought today, why not believe that you are capable of whatever you align your beliefs, thoughts and actions with. We are NOT ‘victims’ of our genes, we are ENERGY. Dig deeper and find the truth for you!

“Love is the only reality and it is not a mere sentiment. It is the ultimate truth that lies at the heart of creation.” Rabindranath Tagore

Create your future vision. In 1 year, 5 years or 10 years from today, who are you? Who do you want to become? Find a beautiful place that inspires you and take some time to write this out in a journal that you can review in one year. We’ve done this every year since meeting one of our mentors.

Visualise where you are in one year, describe it with ALL your senses. What do you see, hear, smell, touch and even taste? How does it make you feel inside? What exactly are you doing and who are you doing this with? What body & health do you have? What kind of wealth do you have?

I think you get the picture! Bring this all together and ‘anchor’ it by creating a vision board and have your Future Vision written and posted in a place that is special for you. NOW, you are ready to create and plan your goals whatever strategy you use. Make it special as 2020 is an auspicious year! I call it a year of Less Sight and More Insight! Happy New Year!

New Year’s Eve is our anniversary and the time we take for ourselves! I’ll be back by January 6.

You know how to reach me!
